WE Fashion joins Zalando Fulfillment Solutions, outsources logistics

Dutch retailer WE Fashion is outsourcing part of its logistics to German e-tailer Zalando. From now on, Zalando will handle all WE Fashion orders made via the online platform.

The partnership between WE Fashion and Zalando is part of the German e-tailer’s Fulfillment Solutions, a partner program that gives fashion brands access to Zalando’s logistics infrastructure and know-how. The program launched in 2017. To date, 21 brands from seven countries have joined the program.

According to Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, WE Fashion is the first Dutch retailer to join the Zalando program. WE Fashion said that it has decided to outsource its logistics to save costs, while for Zalando, the deal with the Dutch retailer is an important step towards its ultimate goal: to become the central operating system of the fashion world, the newspaper reports.

Joris Aperghis, director at WE Fashion, told the newspaper: “As a fashion brand you have to follow your customers and many young customers shop at Zalando. I see Zalando as a digital shopping center, where we operate a flagship store.”

Zalando currently has 24.6 million active customers. WE Fashion told the newspaper that is also has a similar partnership with Dutch online department store Wehkamp.

WE Fashion offers its collection via Zalando in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Now that Zalando is offering the retailer the opportunity to outsource its logistics, WE Fashion is considering expanding to additional countries. “We are about to launch in France and Austria is on our list for the future,” Aperghis told Het Financieele Dagblad.

WE Fashion offers collections for men, women and children. The Dutch retailer, which employs about 2,500 people, operates 220 brick-and-mortar branches in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Both the international distribution centre as well as the company’s head office are based in Utrecht.
