Ebay appoints Charis Márquez as VP of fashion

American e-commerce giant Ebay has appointed Levi Strauss alum Charis Márquez to the newly created role of vice president of fashion, effective immediately.

 
In her new role, Márquez will be responsible for overseeing all of the digital marketplace’s fashion initiatives, including those concerning luxury products.
 
Most recently, Márquez served as VP for sales effectiveness at Levi Strauss & Co., where she has spent the last four years. She first joined the company as head of e-commerce merchandising for the Americas region in December 2016 and has since held a series of roles of increasing responsibility, including senior director for site merchandising and VP for Wholesale.com and digital operations.

Prior to this, she served as director of digital merchandising at Walmart-owned Sam’s Club for just under two years, having previously worked at Sears Holding Corporation for more than 14 years.
 
Márquez, who holds a BA from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, began her career at Sears as a logistics management trainee in 2000. Her last role at the company was head of e-commerce and digital for the Craftsman, Kenmore and DieHard brands.
 
“We’re attracting new shoppers to Ebay with programs and experiences that make us the most competitive platform for enthusiasts across our key categories,” said Jordan Sweetnam, Ebay SVP for North America, to WWD. “The appointment of Charis comes at a time when we have our sights set on expanding these initiatives.”
 
Márquez joins Ebay as the company doubles down on its fashion initiatives. Last fall, for example, the platform added sneakers and watches – two of its most popular luxury categories – to its authentication services.
 
“Having spent a career in retail, I’ve always admired Ebay’s position as the originator of the resale platform,” Márquez told WWD. “I’ve closely followed the company’s recent investments in sneakers, luxury and authentication, and look forward to building on these experiences for the millions of people who shop Ebay every day.”
 
Márquez will be based at Ebay’s HQ in San Jose, California.
