Hammerson said Friday its chief financial officer James Lenton is to leave the UK-based property giant after 15 months. But the board said Lenton will continue in his role until a successor is found.

Bullring

His future departure follows the arrival of new CEO Rita-Rose Gagné in September and Hammerson’s disposal of its Via Outlets stake.

Last summer, the Bullring, Brent Cross and Bicester malls owner announced it planned to sell its 50% stake in Via Outlets in an attempt to stem losses from lower rental collection it had endured as stores were forced to close amid lockdown restrictions.

At the same time the company said it would tap investors for £551.7 million through a rights issue to support the business.

Lenton said: "Following successful completion of the rights issue, VIA Outlets disposal and induction of the new Chair of the Board and CEO, I feel now is the right time to look for a new opportunity. I remain fully committed in the role until my successor is in place".

Gagné added: "James was instrumental in navigating and conducting the rights issue and VIA Outlets disposal. I am grateful for his support and commitment to continue until his successor joins. We wish him well for the future.”

Last month, Hammerson said it was seeking a secondary share listing in Dublin before the UK’s Brexit transition period ended.
