Gucci commissions a mural by Angelina Hicks to promote their collaboration

With the help of British illustrator Angelina Hicks, Gucci is giving the plain white T-shirt a little twist. Hicks will collaborate on a series of limited edition T-shirts with the Italian brand. To promote the collaboration, Gucci released an image of a massive mural by Hicks in Milan.

The brand unveiled the illustration yesterday on a wall on Largo La Foppa in Milan’s Corso Garibaldi district. The original illustration shows two bespectacled girls wearing the ruffled, pastel-colored 1970s style looks that have become associated with Gucci in the past few seasons. Above the massive artwork are the words “Freaks and Geeks.” Befitting the fact that Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele came across Hicks’ work on Instagram, the brand unveiled the Milan street art on the social media platform.

The Milan illustration is one of just 11 designs that will be manufactured on the limited edition T-shirts. Each shirt, which are all unisex, will be packaged in a metal tin featuring the same illustration. Only 100 shirts in each style will be produced, and to highlight the limited run of the collection, each shirt will be numbered from 1 to 100.

Milan isn’t the only city to get a Gucci and Angelica Hicks mural – New York’s Lafayette’s street got its own couture street art as well. To further promote the collaboration, Gucci has created a Snapchat geo-filter available to New York City residents.

This isn’t the first time Gucci has collaborated with artists. The Italian fashion house has previously worked with the likes of Amanda Charchian and Olaf Breuning.
