DSM launches creative project celebrating the other side of Singapore

Dover Street Market launched this weekend the first instalment of a new creative collaboration with fashion collective Youths in Balaclava and photographer Ryan O’Toole Collett.

The project was born last July when O’Toole Collett travelled to Singapore to document the opening of the new Dover Street Market. In his spare time, he found a new, less coordinated side of Singapore as he joined a group of friends who are drawing from their various backgrounds to blend street culture with music, art and fashion.

Including two trained fashion designers, musicians and a scientist, the collective of friends has created a number of clothing collections, such as Traitors 2 Society, Twisted Paradise and Stigma.

The first chapter of the creative project will see the launch of a photo documentary book feature imagery captured during a week with the group by Ryan O’Toole Collett.

The book will launch in Dover Street Market in Singapore and Tokyo on January 13 together with a special celebratory t-shirt by Youths in Balaclava.

The second chapter of the collaboration will be kicked off with the launch of a fashion collection created by Youths in Balaclava for Dover Street Market later this year.

Youths in Balaclava said: “We believe in freedom of expression in all different aspects. Adopt your own style, put on your balaclava and join the tribe. With this, fashion, art and music can finally take a step forward and progress. We think it's about time for a change.”
